Spotify or Apple Music

pat Blog

Most of you know I’m a huge Apple fan. Hands down Spotify just kicks Apple Music’s ass. Granted they’ve had huge head start. Apple you need to get in the game.

Picking up where I left off on any device I own including my vehicle is the cats ass. Works seemless with anything I’ve come across.

Apple Airpods

Hands down the best accessory apple has come up with to date. I can’t believe it took me this long to get my hands on them. I just happen to walk into an Apple store & there were 3 of them on the shelf. Lead time has been 6 weeks since they were released. I chose not to order them, not working for them anymore keeps me away from new tech which isn’t a bad thing. I would’ve had them a long time ago had I realized how awesome they are.

Work

No one at work is your friend. They will cut you at the knees the 1st chance they get.

I learned this lesson long ago, someone else just learned it for the 1st time.

Static

pat Blog, Life

Have you ever got to a point in life where things are stagnant. To the point you’re just stuck in mundane tasks and you settle? I’ve been there many tjmes, then one day I wake up and think wtf am I doing?

It’s time for a new chapter in my book. What will it bring? I have no clue but something has to change. No one is gonna do it for you, have to write it myself. If you don’t life will pass you by & you’ll wonder what happened.

Don’t be afraid to go after life! It ain’t gonna come to you.

Retail

pat Blog, Travel

While I’ve spent many a year in retail as I enjoy working with people. Being on the road working as a field service engineer is a blessing. While traveling can be taxing, it does have its rewards. Sight seeing time permitting of course, rental cars, if you do it right you will drive a pretty cool car. This week has been fun, birthday week & Enterprise noticed it. They asked why I was traveling – business of course. The person at the counter noticed it was my birthday and asked what kind of car I’d like – go big or go home right? Landed a 5.0 convertible Mustang with 80 degree temps. What a great gesture! They have a customer for life

Deceit & Deception

It’s crazy how people function these days. Over the last few years I’ve witnessed empty promises, saying things just to say them with no meaning behind it at all & then just falling off the planet like they never existed.

How does one look in the mirror and be happy? So many people living day to day being unhappy, just going through the motions, giving into insecurities for the sake of existence.

If you’re not living life to its fullest every day then why bother? Why settle? Just sliding into depression. Yes, there are good days but they are so far and few, it’s not enough. Grow some balls and go find happiness.

Before you know it life will be over, tomorrow could be your last day.

Cathedral Rock – Sedona, Arizona

pat Blog, Photography, Travel

You may not of heard of Cathedral Rock, but I’ll bet you’ve seen pictures of it.  Sunset shots of Cathedral Rock are one of the iconic images of the Southwest and it is on the ‘bucket list’ of many a photographer.  Situated near the beautiful little town of Sedona Arizona, it is in the heart of the famous “Red Rock” landscape that has captivated so many of us.  If you plan to make a trip to the area, here is what I’ve found to make the most of your visit to Cathedral Rock.

Finding Cathedral Rock

  • Cathedral Rock is located in a park about 7 miles from ‘downtown’ Sedona.  If you look online you may get confused as to exactly where the park is and what it is actually called.  Sometimes it is referred to as Red Rock Crossing…other times, the Crescent Moon Picnic Area Park
  •  Here is a map and great directions.  If you are using GPS, be careful that it selects the right place.  You specifically want the Crescent Moon picnic area in Red Rock Crossing Park. Leave early and give yourself plenty of time.
  • From the “Y” (intersection of US89A and 179) in downdown Sedona, drive west on US 89A.   Just outside of town, turn south on FR 216 (Upper Red Rock Loop Road). Drive about 1.5 miles and follow the signs to Red Rock Crossing. All roads except the short segment leading from Red Rock Crossing Road to the picnic area are paved

Plan to be at the park at least an hour and a half before sunset

  • Why so early?  Well the first reason is because sunset will actually be 30 minutes before the “official” time because mountains to the east will block light on Cathedral Rock.
  • Traffic in Sedona can be challenging.  It’s one of the few places I’ve photographed in the Southwest where you have to add extra travel-time to your schedule because of traffic.
  • You will need time to find your spot

My favorite vantage points

  • The park is pretty big and if you don’t know the best vantage points you should invest a lot of time scouting locations.
  • Below is a map of my favorite locations – may save you some time, but feel free to scout the area and pick your favorite

  • Below is a larger map which points out the direction I shot

  • Don’t try to cross the river unless you have a waterproof bag for your camera.  Although parts of the river are shallow (there are even ‘stepping stones’ at one location), the rocks are very slippery.

Make the best of it and plan, get there early and take in the sights. I drove around quite a bit and found my favorite shot. We all want to capture something unique – make it your own

Travel for a living

pat Blog

I drive, fly a lot. When you’re a field engineer it’s all about the location. Luckily I have a great vehicle to travel in when I’m on the road. Flying has been a challenge. I finally found an airline that caters to YOU! Southwest Airlines is by far the best airline I’ve ever used. The 1st 2 bags are free. I always have 1 suitcase & a tool bag for on site visits. That still leaves me with 2 carry on bags. Plenty of room for anything you might need. If flying anything but “I want to get away fare” you’re allowed to switch your flights right in the mobile app. So convenient when you finish a job a day earlier than expected. Yes you must pay the difference in airfare but it’s normally very close. At times it’s less.

If you travel as much as I do make sure to get TSA Precheck certified so you don’t have to take your shoes off, take your laptop out or stand in the really long lines. Much shorter and quicker than doing it the regular way. Yes, it costs money but not that much. $85 to apply which is good for 5 years. You’ll need 2 forms of identification (passport, birth certificate & drivers license or equivalent id) it takes about a week to get approved. If you don’t for some strange reason you’ll lose the $85 you paid. It’s not refundable.

So fly Southwest!!!!
